Department of Neuroscience Annual Funding Surpasses $15 Million.

Annual extramural funding awarded to the Department of Neuroscience has surpassed $15 million this year, more than tripling the department’s support over the last three fiscal years. These funds are competitively awarded from a variety of sources including predominantly the National Institutes of Health but also from the National Science Foundation, the Department of Defense, and several major private foundations.

BCM Neuroscience faculty member publish breakthrough discovery in Science.

Dr. Andreas Tolias, Assistant Professor in the BCM Department of Neuroscience and his colleagues published a paper in the current issue (January 29, 2010) of Science showing that the activity of adjacent neurons in the primary visual cortex is uncorrelated. "This is a surprising finding, given what we believe we know about the wiring diagram of the cortex."
